Kin-gin Sunago (Gold/silver dusting) is a traditional Japanese technique that has been passed down over more than 1,000 years. The technique uses powders such as kinpaku (gold dust) or ginpaku (silver dust) as well as kirihaku (cut gold/silver leaf) to depict pictures or patterns.

In Kin-gin sunago craftwork, gold or silver dust is placed inside a utensil comprising a fine-quality bamboo cylinder with small holes in the bottom and sprinkled over lacquer brushed across the area to be decorated to create patterns. Gold dust is used for makie (gold lacquer), but gold leaf is used in sunago craftwork. A diversity of expressions can be created by changing the type, size, and/or shape of the gold leaf used.
所谓金银砂子工艺，是将金箔和银箔放入贴有网格的优质竹筒中，使其撒播开来以制作纹样。 泥金画是使用金粉，而砂子工艺是使用金箔。 通过改变金箔的种类、大小和形状，可以实现丰富多彩的表现形式。
金銀砂子細工は、上質の竹筒に網を貼ったものの中に金銀の箔を入れ、蒔き散らしながら模様をつくり上げます。
蒔絵では金粉を用いますが、砂子細工では金箔を用います。

Kin-gin sunago (gold/silver dust) is a uniquely Japanese gold leaf decorative technique represented by its application to picture scrolls and writing paper in the Heian period (794–1185).
This technique was used in numerous Japanese paintings and works of art that have left their mark on Japanese art history, as well as historical buildings, and is the most gorgeous technique used for decorating fusuma sliding screens.
